{"id":70,"date":"2023-09-22T19:49:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T19:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wesync.co.za\/?p=70"},"modified":"2025-02-09T12:03:22","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T12:03:22","slug":"drone-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thatmechatronicnerd.com\/?p=70","title":{"rendered":"Drone Box"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(22.09.2023)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"http:\/\/www.thatmechatronicnerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/drone_box-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Concept: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Internet of Things (IoT) drone box to house a remotely deployable drone for security surveillance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Background: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A good friend of mine who works in the R&amp;D space with embedded electronics and firmware asked if I would be keen to be a part of : A project with a box for a remotely deployable drone to be used for security purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I thought&#8230; Well it has things that move and work as a mechatronic system, it involves something cool that has a wing AND as an added bonus it makes someones life a little easier with safety and security so why not right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Method of operation:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So the system at is core is pretty simple.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Deployment of the drone:&nbsp;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1: Command is sent from a web dashboard to deploy drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2: An embedded IoT device interprets this command and the motor driver system of the box to go to the open state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3: A drone is launched from the open state and performs required operations as per flight plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Drone return and landing:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1: Drone arrives at a known home location.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2: Drone uses precision landing system based on QR code for optical guidance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3: Drone lands and is centred on landing pad before box closes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4: Box closes and is ready for next deployment  mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Skills Involved:&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAD Design (Solidworks) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cable Design (Solidworks) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Electromechanical Integration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main control PCB Microcontroller: Pi Pico RP2040 (ARM) processor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patience&#8230; Lots of patience&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"829\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thatmechatronicnerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/drone_box_behind_the_scenes.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-91\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(22.09.2023) Concept: An Internet of Things (IoT) drone box to house a remotely deployable drone for security surveillance.
